As soon as I heard that back in 1987 for the first time, I thought, he totally screwed himself, he's practically screaming now, and not just for a few notes, for like 12 bars or more, how is he going to keep that up for night after night, especially as he's running around on stage? Most of those rock singers didn't even do vocal coaching or using any remedies to prime their voice outside of whisky or beer just to calm down the nerves. Mind you, he was forced to use steroids and soundboard playback and aiming the microphone out to the crowd to get them to do it, but man, nowadays he just sounds old with the playback and lowered notes that he should have had to begin with.

What some don't realize is saying the "Livin"... part after the the key change is hard as fk to hit and enunciate that high bc your natural instinct is to tighten up your throat muscles to push it out, but that's incorrect technique.
You have to push from your gut/diaphragm and then use your vocal chords to make the sound, and then use your mouth, tongue and lips to pronounce the lyric.

My HS choir teacher always told us to "sing through the back of your neck" to hit high notes, meaning tilt your head forward as if someone is lifting you up by the back of your head. She said NEVER point your head up and try to sing high bc you'll Crack every time.
But yeah, what Jon was doing going into "Livin on a Prayer" in the key change is very hard to do.
