I have recorded this in real-time on dashcam, yes, its a bit like watching paint dry, but it shows that something has got to be done with Baddow Road - but is 'bus-gate' the solution?
One of the controversial proposals of the recently announced Chelmsford City Growth Package is that there will be a 'bus-gate' operating on the junction of Baddow Road and the Army & Navy roundabout, which will effectively only allow buses through. Cars will have to find an alternative route.
During the 'school rush hour' mid-afternoon I tested exiting Baddow Road onto the Army & Navy and concluded that it called for much patience at the queue made it way toward the City Centre.
A better fix could be more traffic lights on the roundabout,
Why are there not TLs on Baddow By-Pass to give vehicles exiting Baddow Road half a chance to enter the roundabout?
Then I realise how easy it was after shopping in the City Centre to enter the roundabout and exit onto Baddow Road, thanks to traffic lights holding back the hordes coming over the new viaduct.
CRHnews believes that if 'bus gate' becomes a reality, then it will cause traffic chaos on Wood Street, Longstomps - leading to further tailbacks on Princes Road, Gloucester Avenue etc etc etc.
A foretaste of what will occur took place recently with the burst water main on Wood Street which took three days to sort.
